Former Cardinals QB Retires

ARIZONA -- Former |A| Arizona Cardinals QB Colt |B| McCoy is retiring from |C| the NFL.

After 14 |E| years, Colt McCoy tells |F| me he is retiring |G| from the NFL. One |H| door closes, another opens. |J| McCoy already has a |K| high profile broadcasting job |L| secured, which will be |M| announced later today. Congrats |O| to Colt on an |P| awesome NFL career!

McCoy |Q| - who spent a |R| few years with the |S| Cardinals before being cut |U| ahead of the 2023 |V| season - talked about |Y| potentially calling it quits |Z| at a football camp |A| earlier this summer.

I |B| havent really talked much |C| about my situation - |D| I never like to |E| give excuses. Ive been |F| fortunate to play 14 |G| years, I tore my |H| elbow pretty bad and |J| Im not sure Im |K| gonna get over that, |L| to be honest, McCoy |M| said.

Thats a tough |O| one. But at the |P| same time, injuries are |Q| part of the game. |R| Ive certainly had my |S| fair share and its |U| almost kind of like |V| a hard stop. So, |Y| well see but [I] |Z| had many opportunities to |A| jump back in last |B| year week to week |C| in a lot of |D| places. I physically just |E| wasnt able to do |F| it.

McCoy also added:

|G| dir="ltr">I am a footballer |H| for life and I |J| want everybody to play |K| football because I know |L| what its done for |M| me. So to have |O| one chapter in and |P| start another one, football |Q| will be a part |R| of that somehow. Whether |S| thats coaching, whether thats |U| broadcasting, whether thats talking |V| football, whatever it is, |Y| its part of who |Z| I am.

Im excited |A| about more opportunities to |B| come and what that |C| is in life after |D| this [who knows] but |E| football is amazing.

McCoy |F| was a third-round pick |G| in the 2010 NFL |H| Draft and played over |J| a decade at the |K| next level after a |L| successful college career at |M| Texas.

McCoy spent the |O| final two years of |P| his career in the |Q| desert, where he found |R| success as a backup |S| behind Kyler Murray.

McCoy |U| unfortunately suffered a neck |V| injury and dealt with |Y| concussion symptoms towards the |Z| end of the 2022 |A| season in Arizona. Leading |B| into 2023s training camp, |C| he dealt with elbow |D| issues that ultimately proved |E| to be harsh enough |F| for the Cardinals to |G| cut him ahead of |H| the regular season.

McCoy |J| also played for Cleveland, |K| Washington, New York (Giants) |L| and San Francisco.
